Established in 1896

The Club has a long and interesting history, having grown from a mere handful of inaugural members to its present membership of 100.

It can boast of one of the most spacious clubhouses in the county and a superb seven rink green, the envy of most visiting clubs. The Club has its own small car park but there is space for 400 cars in the public car park at the rear (£1.50 all day). Its location as the first bowling club on entering North Devon ensures an interest for clubs visiting the area

The clubhouse has a comfortable bar and lounge and the wide expanse of windows make for ideal viewing of the games. A separate large dining room makes for comfortable seating for teas.

The room is sufficiently large to house up to three short mats, during the winter. In addition the clubhouse has internal male and female changing rooms and a large, fully fitted, kitchen.

To comply with new regulations a separate toilet facility has been built for physically disadvantaged people and a purpose constructed wheelchair is available for such players.

Competitions and Activities

Devon County Bowling Association is composed of eight sections, with the Club's Men’s and Ladies in Section Two. Teams compete in county competitions such as County Trophy, Foxlands, Top Club, Over 60s and in the Triples League. Many members compete in the County Competitions.

At club level, 21 competitions are held, terminating in 'grand finals days' at the end of the season. During the winter months short mat bowls is played. The Club has three league teams and members can use the mats most week day afternoons. In addition, Saturday night bingo sessions are held; and other social events include quiz nights and race nights.
